Athletic Club - Real Betis

Athletic Club defeated Real Betis 3-1 yesterday in San Mamés. Our team’s goals were scored by Sabin Merino (x2) and Mikel Rico. The visiting team’s only goal was scored by Rubén Castro.

The game has been a daunting challenge to continue the good run of the league after the effort of last Thursday, but the team responded perfectly with seven changes from the previous game’s line-up. Athletic Club bossed from the opening whistle and were superior throughout the match.

The first goal took its time to be scored and after Sabin Merino’s first goal, Mikel Rico’s left-footed shot at the end of the first half gave the local team the second goal.

Both of them assisted their third goal, Mikel Rico’s amazing shot was cleared, but the rebound was converted by Sabin Merino. Once the match was decided, the intensity of the game decreased and Rubén Castro scored for Real Betis.

A well-earned three points to stay in sixth place and move ten points away from eighth. However, before Sunday’s meeting we face RCD Espanyol, our European future is at stake.
