Athletic Club defeated Real Betis Balompié 0-2 at Benito Villamarín. Raúl García, with a penalty, and Feddal (own goal), scored the rojiblancos’ goals.

Victory to finish the year, the third one away from home in LaLiga, seventh game with a clean sheet and three more points to reach the middle of the table.

Betis dominated the first minutes and Herrerín turned a shot on to the post. But our team maintained high pressure and managed to create their first chances, the clearest at the feet of Susaeta and De Marcos, until the key play of the match arrived. 

Jordi Amat committed a foul in the box on Laporte and was given a red card. The penalty was scored by Raúl García in his 400th match in LaLiga.

In the resumption, Athletic sought the second goal from the beginning. For this, the clearest chance was a Raúl García shit to the crossbar. However, the goal didn’t arrive and some nervousness has seemed to settle in the rojiblancos given the short income that was on the scoreboard, which led to the beticos’ best minutes.

Happily, with five minutes to go and after another couple of missed opportunities, Feddal sent a De Marcos cross to the goal.

Triumph to enjoy the winter mini-vacation and to help prepare for the third Basque derby of the season – on January 7 against Deportivo Alavés in San Mamés. Unfortunately, Unai Núñez will not be available as he received a fifth yellow card.
