There has been no luck in the home debut in the box of our new president, Aitor Elizegi, and the cup tie has become very difficult.

Despite Athletic carrying the weight of the game, the Red and Whites were unable to make the most of their presumed superiority and while they amassed possession, their opponents were lethal in most of their approaches.

The fact that they took an early lead gave them more space, but 0-1 at half-time was too much of a reward, especially considering that the whims of the VAR went against them and that in the same play in which a goal was disallowed, Aduriz saw the discomfort caused by an earlier knock reoccur.

In the second half, at least the equaliser came from San José’s header from Susaeta’s corner. The state of affairs suggested a second home goal, but Sevilla scored theirs in a play that was as isolated as it was accurate and from there to the end the superiority was Andalusian, even more so after the 1-3 scoreline.

Let’s hope that on Sunday in LaLiga it will be a different story.
