Athletic Club has defeated Girona FC 1-0 in San Mames. Aritz Aduriz has been the scorer of the zurigorri team, through a penalty in the injury time. Thanks to this goal, he has managed to score in the last fourteen seasons of LaLiga in a consecutive way.
This has been the second victory of the team in LaLiga, more than deserved, although it came in the last minutes of the fixture. A triumph against a very solid team that came to San Mamés with a backpack of eight consecutive games without losing and that did not know the defeat out of home.
Three golden points for Athletic Club that has put all its effort on top of the green and that, for once, has achieved that merits and results walked hand in hand to obtain the final victory.
Athletic has imposed itself from the very beginning of the match, it has manage to regulate the pressure and the attack against a three central defence and a well-focused centre of the field. That way, the opportunities have begun to count, until the team has reach 25 shots and 11 corner kicks. Moreover, the fixture has lived the emotion of the VAR in an unmarked hand to Bernardo and a cancelled goal to Girona.
The goal was not arriving. Unfortunately, we had to suffer against Gorka Iraizoz and his recital of successful interventions. What’s more, when the referee has pointed out penalties after Ramalho’s entry to Muniain, everyone has gone to review statistics related to the eleven meter throws, and remembered the penalties saved or diverted by Gorka to Ronaldo, Messi, Diego Castro and Aubameyang. Especially the one that diverted in 2006 to Aduriz himself, in that case defending the goal of RCD Espanyol. However, Aritz has thrown to the middle and gently beat Iraizoz.
With the fourteen points in the table, the team now will continue in the fierce fight out of the last positions of the classification. The team is alive and ready to face Alavés next Monday in Mendizorrotza, the third Basque derby of the league season.
In the meantime, let’s celebrate the victory and the harmony achieved today between the team and the fans.
