Burgos CF - Athletic Club

Athletic continue to make excellent pre-season progress. Edin Terzić’s side defeated Burgos CF 0-3 at El Plantío, registering another victory and another clean sheet in their preparations for LaLiga 2026/27.

Jesus Areso, Robert Navarro and Iñaki Williams all got on the scoresheet in a 120-minute match that was divided into four quarters.

Athletic dominated from the outset at a scorching hot Estadio El Plantío.

Mikel Jauregizar had Athletic's first shot on target in the 8th minute. Jesus Areso netted a right-footed strike at the back post, his first Zurigorri goal, to give Athletic the lead in the 14th minute.

Minutes later, Alex Padilla prevented the home side from equalising with a superb save.

In the second 30 minutes, the teams were more evenly matched, with periods where Burgos had control of the ball.

Nevertheless, Terzić’s Lions managed to maintain their lead and the score remained 0–1 at the halfway point.

Athletic's second came shortly after the main break as a one-two between Peio Canales and Roberto Navarro put the latter through on goal to extend the deficit.

Just before the third quarter ended, Iñaki Williams, making his first appearance of the pre-season, got off the mark with a close-range finish.

The Lions’ next match sees them face Olmypique de Marseille at the Stade Veldrome on Sunday August 9 at 17:30 CEST.
