Bilbao Athletic draws without goals in Lezama

Joseba Etxeberria’s squad were dominant against Calahorra, but could not score

undefined

Bilbao Athletic could not go from a draw to zero against C.D. Calahorra in its second match of the season, held at the facilities of Lezama. The cubs, who came from getting three points in the first matchday against Haro by 1-4, failed to overcome the team of former red-and-white Miguel Sola, well set on the pitch but inoperative in the offensive area.

Joseba Etxeberria’s team dominated the game from the beginning to the end. Several of the clearest opportunities of the red-and-white came in the first half hour, with attempts mainly by San Bartolomé and a double shot by Tascón and Morcillo that the red-and-white could not define against Zabal. However, the intensity of the cubs was decreasing as the minutes went by, reaching the half-time with 0-0 on the scoreboard.

The second half, played under intense rain, was more of the same, with a dominant Bilbao Athletic with more heart than head and an effective C.D. Calahorra in its role, defending the occasional local approaches. A header by Asier Córdoba and Vivian’s shot at the injury time were the clearest options for the cubs in the second half.
