Athletic Club 2-Torino FC 3
Athletic Club lost 3-2 at home against Torino FC and said goodbye to the UEL. Iraola and De Marcos were the goalscorers, while Quagliarella, Maxi López and Darmian scored for the visitors.
As in the first leg, our opponents showed a great attacking ability in response to the almost exclusive initiative of our team and during most of the tie it was an uphill struggle.
At the decisive moments, when we were in top spot for qualification (1-1) or tied (2-2), our team was unable to kill off the game. We went 2-1 down a few seconds before the break, three minutes after scoring the equaliser, and we went 3-2 down too quickly after equalising again. With the third goal scored, the tie was almost impossible.
With the exception of the result and the bad weather inclemencies, it was a good night of football with two sets of fans enjoying the match and an excellent atmosphere throughout the day. And no time to rest before the Basque derby in Eibar on Sunday, immediately followed by the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey. Let’s see if we can change the dynamics a bit and get back to winning ways.
