Girona FC - Athletic Club

Athletic Club won 1-2 at Girona FC in Montilivi. Iñaki Williams and Raúl García scored at the beginning of the second half overcoming Stuani’s strike in the final stretch of the first half.

The team had a good start, took the initiative and had control of the match during the first twenty minutes of the match. As the contest opened up, the locals had chances and, despite the few attempts by both sides, in the 37th minute Stuani demonstrated his well known striking ability and scored a header to make it 1-0.

This has not been a season of epic comebacks, but after the break, Athletic put the duel on track before the quarter-hour. First, a header by Williams, from Yuri’s cross, tied the match and the Girona conceded the second goal without time to react. This time at the opposite side, Williams crossed for Raul Garcia to beat, also with the head, our former player Gorka Iraizoz.

From there until the end, our team had the best chances, but lacked more skill in the last pass. Already without Dani Garcia on the field, injured, the red-and-white squad defended well from the rival aerial bombing and will start the week looking up with the healthy intention of prolonging the winning streak against Levante UD.
