Muniain scores a penalty as the lions lose 2-1 in the 80-minute friendly
Athletic Club lost 2-1 in the first of their two fixtures against Sevilla FC in the Pinatar Arena on Friday night.
The lions got off to a promising start, they controlled the game and had chances to go ahead in the first few minutes.
Later the game became more balanced and Sevilla went ahead through a long-range effort by Escudero. Athletic’s equaliser came when Iker Muniain evened the scores from the spot after Iñaki Williams was brought down in the box.
Left-back Yuri came close to scoring a spectacular goal when he struck the crossbar with a fierce shot from outside the box. But Athletic’s best chance came in the first minute when Kenan Kodro got on the end of a great cross from left winger Jon Morcillo.
In the second half, Athletic had less possession in the opposition half and the game was decided when Sevilla striker En-Nesyri scored a header inside the box. Williams almost scored an equaliser in the dying minutes but it wasn’t to be.
Defender Yeray came off injured around the hour mark.
