CA Osasuna - Athletic Club

A 1-1 draw feels like a defeat. Athletic had victory in their grasp at El Sadar thanks to a Nico Williams goal in the 85th minute, but they let two points escape following a scrappy move that saw Alejandro Catena find the net in stoppage time.

Edin Terzic’s side played to win, bided their time and seized their moment… Especially after a sluggish, slower-paced first half.

Following deserved tributes to Jesus de Miguel, Iñaki Williams laid-up Robert Navarro, whose shot was stopped by Aitor Fernandez. Athletic also could have gone 0-1 up with a fantastic Alex Berenguer strike from outside the box that hit the woodwork.

Those chances and a Yuri effort that went straight into Aitor Fernandez's hands at the end of the first half were the sum total of the Rojiblancos’ attacking threat.

Athletic stepped up the pace after the break. Robert had a chance to make it 0–1 from a Nico pass, and Oihan Sancet squandered a glorious chance opportunity after Peio Canales won possession back high up the pitch. Osasuna's only chance was a disallowed Valentin Rosier goal.

Berenguer was then ruled offside after a brilliant team move that ended with Sancet scoring whilst the linesman’s flag was up.

It looked as though the match would end 0–0, but in the 85th minute, Canales launched a counter-attack and Iñaki linked up with his brother, who slotted the ball into the net. The stands went wild.

However, Athletic let the victory slip away at the death as they failed to clear their lines and allowed defender Alejandro Catena to pounce on a loose ball like a striker.

The Lions are still unbeaten in four and now it's time to recharge our batteries in the international break.
