Athletic Club drew 1-1 in El Madrigal against Villarreal CF. Pina scored right at the start of the second half and Aduriz equalled with a well-aimed header with just ten minutes remaining. On the down side, Aritz Aduriz received his fifth view yellow card, which will prevent him from lining up against Getafe, and the penalty which Asenjo parried away in the closing stages of the first half.

The contest was more of a hard-fought rather than quality affair, and the team played better after going behind, although the red card that Gabriel received in the 65th minute meant that the routes to the opponent’s penalty area were almost completely closed off.

There are ten matches left until the end of season in La Liga and they have a six-point advantage over the team in fifth place, as well as a more favourable goal difference than Villarreal. Despite everything, there is still a really tough run-in.
