Ernesto Valverde's Athletic continue to show good signs in this World Cup break. The Lions notched a third consecutive friendly win, plus another clean sheet, with a 0-3 victory at El Plantío, where the hosts were celebrating the 100-year anniversary of their founding.

It was a professional performance from Los Rojiblancos, they were well organised and controlled the tempo throughout, taking an early lead via a precise Gorka Guruzeta strike.

Athletic had chances to make it 0-2 before the break, Oihan Sancet and Raúl García both going close. At the other end, Juan Artola - on loan at Burgos from Los Leones - looked lively but the home side never truly troubled Julen Agirrezabala.

It was Guruzeta again who scored early in the second half. The striker controlled a long, high ball from Yeray with class before slotting home without much fuss. In 57th minute, Raúl García made it 0-3 from a corner, the striker getting the ball over the line in a goalmouth scramble.

Young forward Jon Cabo came on to make his senior debut and Asier Villalibre narrowly missed the target. Little did it matter to the Burgos crowd, who celebrated their team throughout. Athletic made sure the fans in attendance got their money's worth with a mature display and thanked them at the end with a round of applause.
