Levante UD - Athletic Club

Athletic Club return empty-handed from Valencia after suffering a 3-1 defeat in the rescheduled match against Levante UD.

It was a bleak and disappointing evening for Athletic, who were undone by their own mistakes.

The Lions gott off to promising start, dominating and creating a clear-cut chance through Alex Berenguer, who was denied by a superb Mathew Ryan save.

Two turnovers led to Levante UD captain Roger Brugué scoring twice between the 19th and 21st minute. The match had suddenly become an uphill struggle for Edin Terzić's side.

After the break, Athletic were much better. They kept chipping away and Maroan Sannadi won a penalty which Berenguer converted to make it 2–1 in the 66th minute.

Aymeric Laporte’s red card in the 72nd minute made things tougher. However, even when down to ten men, Athletic went close to equalising through Yuri Berchiche after a fine move involving Berenguer and Iñaki Williams.

The Lions didn’t throw in the towel. But, whilst desperately looking for an equaliser, they conceded a third goal, scored by Karl Etta Eyong.

Now it’s time to recover, bounce back and beat Getafe at San Mamés on Sunday.
