VfB Stuttgart - Athletic Club

Athletic Club suffered the German onslaught in the last preparation match before the start of LaLiga. Stuttgart, a Champions League team and runners-up in the Bundesliga last season, won 4-0, with the Lions unable to stop the Teutonic side. 

The first half, unfortunately, was dominated by the home side. VfB Stuttgart imposed their rhythm and the Lions, with a team full of youngsters, were at the mercy of the German side.

Two strikes before the first quarter of an hour gave the Bundesliga runners-up the lead. Silas scored with a header in the 10th minute after connecting with Jeff Chabot's nod-on. Not longer later, Ermedin Demirovic got on the end of Justin Diehl's cross to beat Alex Padilla.

Silas scored again just after the break, punishing the Rojiblancos after they lost possession in their own half. With the scores at 3-0, changes were made in the 60th minute.

All the players were substituted except Padilla and Iñigo Lekue, who completed the whole game. Oihan Sancet had several attempts to pull one back, but had no luck in front of goal. Nick Woltemade scored past Padilla with a low effort around the 80 minute mark. 

The official season kicks off now. Next Thursday at San Mamés, Athletic Club hosts Getafe in our first fixture of LaLiga 2024/25.
