Athletic score another away win

The lions, as in Cadiz, score four goals against Elche CF to climb back up the table

The Lions have received another boost to their morale on their second away trip of the season, which, as in Cadiz, has ended with a goal that could have been even greater. Athletic defeated Elche CF 1-4 thanks to their incisive plan, which involves keeping an eye on the opposing goal. A super goal from Nico Williams adorned the victory, given as a reward for enduring the sweltering heat to the more than 1,500 red and white supporters at the Martínez Valero stadium.

With the introduction of Iñigo Martínez and Dani García in the starting eleven, Los Rojiblancos went for the game from the start. The 0-1 lead came from a good throw-in, a good understanding between Muniain and Berenguer and Álex's tense cross into the box was put into the net by Nico Fernández.

The 0-2 came five minutes later, in the 13th minute. It was a penalty on Nico Williams that was called by the VAR. Oihan Sancet took the responsibility of taking the penalty to break the streak from the spot. He did it decisively, to the left of Badía.

After a darting run, he unleashed a spectacular left-footed shot into the top corner Nico scored his first goal in LaLiga. In the 38th minute, he played a great ball to his brother that was stopped by the home goalkeeper.

As in the 0-4 win in Cadiz, the Lions had another goal disallowed in the midst of an attacking delight. Another run by Nico and a back pass that Muniain sent into the net, although it brushed Berenguer, in a clear offside position. Álex would go on to score his third goal of the season with a left-footed shot in the 43rd minute after a long throw-in from Simón and a one-two with Rocco.

In the second half, Elche CF created their first chances through Ponce, who made it 1-4, although the Lions had three clear chances. The first, Berenguer hit the post after a great pass from Iñaki and the loose ball was not scored by Muniain due to a save by Badía, and Álex himself and Zarraga had the chance to make it 1-5. Athletic are looking up again and Iraola's Rayito awaits at San Mamés on Saturday.
