Athletic is shown as a real team to beat Borussia Moenchengladbach 0-2 with goals from Williams and Cordoba
Athletic bids farewell to the German stage with an interesting 0-2 victory. It does it, indeed, which is more important, with a team feeling made. Borussia Moenchengladbach were no easy opponents, who demanded from the goalkeepers, very well by the way. The goals of Williams, by penalty, and Cordoba drew a blue sky in the lead German afternoon.
Velbert’s test was very serious. The physical presence of Borussia Moenchengladbach’s players made it necessary to play very intensely. And Athletic was ahead on the scoreboard to the quarter of an hour by a penalty scored by Williams, pointed by a hand to Cordoba’s shot.
A rehearsal, with a pleasant temperature, and fine rain, for the game, a closed and demanding match of those that enchant the coaches. The Athletic, without great occasions, was in many moments above in the game. Although Moenchengladbach, with the left hand of Frenchman Cuisance, was restless at times.
However, the first and only goalkeeper intervention in the first half was a stretch from Simon to a poisoned shot from Neuhaus. Herrerin also took to the field with his gloves open, as he showed in a Musel clearance.
But Athletic were hungry and went 0-2 with Cordoba’s second goal on the tour. It was the result of a great collective move that started Capa, combined with Ibai and sent Williams to serve Cordoba the ball on a tray. The headlines of this match went for the shower in the 67th minute. One later, San José almost sent out a good shot.
Herrerín again showed off a shot from close range, this time from Bennett. And after the Germans cancelled an offside goal, Sancet came powerful from behind to send a great pass from Balenziaga to the post. There is present and future in Athletic.
