It was a beautiful sight. The whole of Vallecas was on its feet to applaud Unai Simón when in the 61st minute he was replaced by Julen Agirrezabala and took the Zamora Trophy.

Simón, who had signed a contract extension on Friday, is the first Athletic keeper to win the prize since legendary shotstopper Jose Angel Iribar in 1970.

The 2023/24 season, the one in which we took out La Gabarra thanks to our Copa triumphs, will go down in Zurigorri history.

Vallecas, bursting at the seams, was in festive spirit. It was the perfect send-off for Dani García and Raúl García in their final appearance for Athletic.

Radamel Falcao and Jorge de Frutos looked to make things interesting at the start. Athletic tried to make sure their no.1 didn't have to deal with too many threats and a Falcao effort which was turned behind for a corner was the most dangerous moment for Unai.

Yuri came off with an injury before Simón finally made way for Julen. After that, Athletic took off the shackles. Alex Berenguer dribbled his way into the box and set up Nico Williams to put the Lions ahead.

Alex and Raúl had chances to make it 0-2. In the end it didn't matter and the Athleticzales went into full party mode.
