Real Betis - Athletic Club

Athletic Club extened their unbeaten run in LaLiga to 13 matches after twice equalising from set-pieces against Real Betis. 

Oihan Sancet got the final leveller from an Alex Berenguer corner. It was clear to see the point at a difficult away ground meant a lot to Ernesto Valverde's side, who came into the match off the back of a huge European win.

The Lions remain in fourth place, four points clear of Villarreal. They now have a clear week to prepare for an important game against Girona at San Mames.

Athletic did not have it easy in Seville. Betis took an early lead after Unai Simón parried Antony's left-footed shot into the path of an attentive Isco.

The goalkeeper made a key save to deny Cedric Bakambu in one-on-one situation just before the Zurigorris' first equaliser. It came in the 32nd minute. Berenguer launched a corner towards Adrián San Miguel's goal and Aitor Paredes managed to force it goalward after a weak clearance from the Betis shotstopper.

Simón appeared again to stop Johnny Cardoso scoring. Just as the first half was coming to an end, Athletic failed to clear their lines and Romain Perraud beat Unai with a thunderous long-range shot.

Athletic began to stretch the Betis defence with good runs down the right by Iñaki Williams and were rewarded in the 68th minute when Sancet buried a bullet header from another corner.

The team held strong and defended well. The only bad news was another ankle injury for Álvaro Djaló after the winger was caught by Marc Roca.

Time for the lads to catch their breath and get ready for a crucial match against Girona next Saturday.
