CD Eldense - Athletic Club

Athletic Club move in to the last 16 of the Copa after a commanding win against CD Eldense, leaders of Primera RFEF Group 2.

It was a 1-6 win based on a rock-solid performance.The hosts held out for the first half hour, but Ernesto Valverde's side were not in the mood to mess around.

CD Eldense are a dangerous team and they came into this game in very good form. When Juanto Ortuño sent shot wide after going through on goal, Athletic knew it was time to strike a blow.

It came in the 35th minute, Raúl García putting a great cross into the box which Alex Berenguer got a touch to before Nico Williams toe poked home after Dimitrios Statamakis saved Berenguer's effort.

Five minutes later Athletic scored again. Yuri Berchiche sent a free-kick into the wall and Berenguer, who was involved in four of the six goals, got to the rebound and beat the Eldense keeper with a low, left-footed drive from the edge of the area.

Valverde's Lions kept their foot on the accelerator after the break. Iker Muniain set up Oier Zarraga's for a goal in the 58th minute, Mikel Vesga and Alex combined for the latter to get his second, Rubén Correia scored an own-goal under pressure from Gorka Guruzeta, and Muniain - who is now just one game behind Joseba Etxeberria in the all-time appearance makers list - completed the rout with a side-footed finish in stoppage time.

In between all that, Mario Soberón had the glory of scoring the first goal against the Lions in this year's Copa when he made it 1-4.

The victory was a well-deserved reward for the more than 1,000 Athletic fans in Elda. Now it's time to focus on the Osasuna match coming up on Monday.
