Athletic Club - Valencia CF

Athletic Club salvaged a point in Bilbao thanks to an Alex Berenguer header in the final minute of stoppage time. The 2-2 scoreline was a fair one as Los Rojiblancos went toe-to-toe with a direct Valencia side containing plenty of firepower up front.

The Lions initially took the lead via a great Oscar de Marcos goal, but Fran Pérez and Hugo Duro turned the result around in frantic 10-minute period in the second half. 

It was a frenetic clash. Valencia threatened early on through Hugo Duro and Selim Amallah, while Iñaki Williams forced a flying save from Giorgi Mamardashvilli with a great left-footed shot. Los Leones slowly grew into the match and took the lead in the 32nd minute. Nico Williams played through De Marcos and the right-back tucked away a low finish under the Georgian keeper's legs.

Unai Simón did his bit at the other end, making sure Athletic maintained their lead at the break thanks to two fine saves from Duro and Amallah, one with his hands and the other with his feet.

Dani García almost made it 2-0 in the 60th minute, the central midfielder connecting with a volley that Mamardashvili tipped on to the crossbar. 

It would prove to be a crucial moment, as two minutes later, Fran Pérez finished off a strong counter-attack to put the scores level. Simón prevented stopped the visitors taking the lead shortly after. However, there was nothing the shotstopper could do when Pérez set up Duro in the 68th minute.

But, Athletic never give up. Iñaki tested Mamardashvili with a header from a De Marcos delivery. With time running out, the no.9 then turned provider, sending in a measured cross which Berenguer nodded into the net in the 96th minute.

The result Athletic stay in the sixth place in the LaLiga standings as they prepare for Wednesday's Copa opener.
