Athletic secure a vital win at Las Palmas
The 0-2 win at a tough ground consolidates the Lions' hold on fifth place and brings them to within two points of fourth place

Athletic Club secured a vital 0-2 win over Las Palmas at the Estadio Gran Canaria with a solid performance that sees the Lions' consolidate fifth place and move within two points of fourth-placed Atletico Madrid.
Gorka Guruzeta's header from a great Nico Williams cross and a Saúl Coco own goal put Los Leones on 53 points with ten games to go, surpassing what they achieved last season.
Ernesto Valverde's side played the game to perfection, pressing the Canary Islanders' defence well and defending resolutely. It was a game of few chances, but Athletic dominated the first half as they set the foundations to go on and take victory.
Los Leones' first chance saw Oihan Sancet head over from a Yuri Berchiche cross. The key moment came in the 31st minute, as Nico Williams sent a ball to the far post for Guruzeta to head home his 13th goal of the campaign - his 11th in LaLiga.
The killer blow came in the 65th minute, when Coco, under pressure from Dani Vivian, inadvertently scored an own goal from an Unai Gómez corner.
Las Palmas thought they'd pulled one back with a Marvin Park shot that crossed the line, but it had taken a deflection off Sandro's hand and the referee had no hesitation in disallowing the goal.
Alex Berenguer also had a goal chalked off for handball. Unai Simón produced a superb save with his foot in a one-v-one with Sergi Cardona.
Athletic held out to collect all three points and a 19th clean sheet of the campaign. Special mention for Iñigo Ruiz de Galarreta, who shine brightly on his return to the stadium where he played for two years.
Saturday brings a derby against Deportivo Alavés at San Mamés, our last home game before the Copa del Rey final in Seville.
Let's fill The Cathedral to the brim, Athleticzales!
